GM tool J-23028

Hey all,

I've read a lot on here about spring installation, and I never felt comfortable with the compressors. I have the original shop manual, and it references a GM toll J-23028. It looks pretty simple, but costs about 400 new. I went to a fabrication shop today who said he could make it for 35 bucks. I'll post pictures and let you know ow it goes as soon as I get it.

Cheers!
MPH

It worked pretty well! It was the only way I could get the front end back together. I'll take pictures of it when I get home, and make a few recommendations when I have a full size keyboard.

Because I was installing Spohn's tubular control arms, my jack looked close enough to be slipping off I didnt want to jack it all the way in place. Spohn's tech support (I am paraphrasing slightly because it was a couple years ago now) basically said, "just do it the normal way from the manual." Since my Dad bought the 88 Pontiac shop manual with the car, I went down the 23028 rabbit hole.

Re: GM tool J-23028

I made it 12" because that sounded easy. 11 would have been better.

Re: GM tool J-23028

How does this work?
I'm assuming you attach the strut/spindle to the A-arm and then place this on the inner part of the A-arm and then jack it up until the bolt holes line up?
