cutting eibach pro kits front coils

Before I provide info, I'm not here to get burned on cutting springs. I've read countless posts and decided to go along with the process due to my disappointment with the final stance of the pro kit's.

Now that has been stated, I've noticed this has been a pretty common concern among all car enthusiasts that have purchased eibach pro kit lowering spring. I just wanted to state that I am extremely satisfied with the appearance!

I took my front coil springs, and cut them half a coil. Gave me pretty much exactly a 1" drop. The front of the car sat at 26.45-5" before, and is currently sitting at 25.5".

I have yet to notice any cons to this modification and probably will in the end regretting it somewhat if I don't upgrade my shocks. Updates will be posted if I come across anything to those of you that have concerns with this process. Yet, at the moment I am very happy with the current stance!

I will be happy to post a photo if anyone asks!

Re: cutting eibach pro kits front coils

so you cut 1/2 a coil of the eibach pro springs? (wan't really clear in your post, but that sounds like what you did from the title).

Pics? How stiff is the ride? did you figure out the spring rate?

btw: I'm all for cutting springs if that gives you what you need for the car, you just need to understand what that does to spring rates...

Yes, off the pro kit's. The front end is a bit stiffer, but nothing too noticable. Rides fine, have not bottomed out on the bump stops and have made it over quite a few various speed bumps with no clearance issues. If anything, the spring rate has increased slightly. Nothing too dramatic to cause any interference with handling. A few photos are attached!

Re: cutting eibach pro kits front coils

I've been toying with this idea myself for a few years. I want the front to drop just a tad bit more. I don't think the heater hose mod would give me a 1/2" that I'm looking for...? So I might have to cut or install gcwj's.

I cut the stock springs on my 86 iroc. A full coil on the front and a full coil on the back. It sits just about the same height jesseshredd's and the ride isn't really that much rougher so if you want 1/2 an inch just cut a little off. Maybe like a 1/3 of a coil. The front rubbers on my car where not thick enough that a heater hose would've made a bit of difference but it would have made the re-install easier. The rear springs have the big thick rubber. My car sits about 2 inches lower now with a full coil off and heater hose on the rear springs.

Re: cutting eibach pro kits front coils

Just trimmed 1/3 coil and removed rubber insulator. I was able to drop 3/4". From 26.75 to 26".

Front 26"
Rear 27"

Love the ride height

Re: cutting eibach pro kits front coils

I actually just cut my Pro-Kit tonight. I cut a half coil too, and I'm at 25.5" also. Gonna do a smidge off the rears too, and I'll post up pics and measurements when I'm done. At the moments I'm running Tokico HPs on all four corners as well.
My plan was to go with weight jacks on the corners with Koni's, and figured since I had the prokit already, might as well play with em. Ride wasn't noticeable changed with the 1/2 coil cut, which is to say it's still great. ...and now it looks even better. I may just stay with my current set up!

Re: cutting eibach pro kits front coils

I'm curious, why spend the money on Eibachs, only to cut them? Why not trim the stockers? Did you guys install the Eibachs then find your car wasn't quite low enough?

4 years ago I replaced most steering and suspension components. Coils as you may or may not know are relitively cheap to replace compared to other components. I've been very pleased with the eibach coils for my application. The stockers were 20 years old and didn't want to cut them for that reason. Where I live the roads suck so had to be carful with ride height. After 4 years I decided I wanted to fine tune the height just a little to get it just right. I'm totally satisfied with the results.

There is a number of company's and methods to achieve desired ride heights. Basically I changed my mind just a bit and I look at this as a free mod

Re: cutting eibach pro kits front coils

I have my Eibachs for over 10 years. Never was quite low enough, but they looked good and handled well, so I never touched 'em. Recently I decided to actually go ahead and do shocks/struts and springs to get it down a little lower and freshen up. Figured since I had 'em ...might as well start there. Lets me see how they ride, and if I like the look, and functionality of having it that low.

I'm sitting at 26" in front.... Do I require any bump stop mods or just leave it?

Re: cutting eibach pro kits front coils

I cut 1/3 off my front eibachs and removed the isolaters. Dropped roughly 3/4 to an inch.
No cons so far.

You should be fine at 26"

...that's where my current set up is sitting. Not sure if you guys saw my post about the Ground Control Weight jacks. SOOOO much better ride than the Eibachs. Night and Day. I'd never go back.
