sitting high in front end
Hi, I swapped 86 z28 suspension into my 91 rs that used to be a v6 car so that I would have a more robust setup in it- I swapped all components except the shocks because the ones from the 91 only had about 500 miles on them, and i figured since I'm not racing the car, the rebound and whatnot would not be a big deal. but when I lowered the car back down off the jacks the car was sitting very high in the front end. It seems as though it is at max travel, and there is no "bounce" in it. Feels as if it was on frame it is so stiff, but it isn't.
I searched around, but I couldn't find much. Im thinking some bushings are bound up? or maybe the car has to actually drive a little bit and settle?
Thanks

Re: sitting high in front end
I just replaced the springs in my 89 Formula 350 with OEM stock ACDelco Part# 45H0154... Same situation here. The driver side fender lip is at 29 1/2" and passenger is 28 1/2" WAY TOO HIGH.
Just a note, the first time I put them in, the top of the coil caught on the side of the seat and didn't settle all the way in.

have you moved the car at all since you put the springs in it? just rolling the car 5 feet will unbind the suspension and settle it a bit.

Re: sitting high in front end
Ok I'll admit I don't drive my car as much as I used to or want to. The springs were purchased off the Chevrolet parts counter in the mid 90's. I ordered the 1LE springs and after looking at the spring rate chart on here, I was sold the second to the top stiffest springs for the front. I'll post the code later when I go to the garage and get it off the springs. The springs were installed when the car had around 80,000 miles on the clock and now I have 122,000 or so. The So.Cal. group told me that the car was sitting a bit high so maybe the springs weren't installed correctly at Pep Boys. Yes, Pep Boys. I was too cheap to have the dealer do the installation. I was in my early 20's and every penny counted.

Re: sitting high in front end
Gotta' be sure that the top of the spring sits in the pocket properly.
I bought a guys project car once where the guy had rebuilt most of the front end. There was no drivetrain in the car so I didn't notice the problem at first - but once I got under it to prepare to install the motor/tranny I quickly found that the dude that I bought the car from wasn't the brightest bulb in the box........
A front end will not sit noticeably high if the spring isn't indexed properly. CERTAINLY not a full inch !! The Spring insulator can fall out of place when installing a front spring - so even if the spring IS in the pocket - if the insulator fell out of position, the ride height WILL change.
MY87LT; You're just gonna' have to crawl under there and inspect the top of the spring to see what it looks like inside the spring pockets ! ( might as well check the indexing too ! )
