Steering Column Question
Hey guys,
Looking into replacing my factory steering column with a simple fabricated shaft. My turn signals, wipers, washers, flashers, and ignition have been relocated off the column already. My question is how does the end of the steering column in the engine bay connect (or mate) with the steering shaft that goes to the sheering box?
Simple question, any input appreciated.
Thanks
Bill

Re: Steering Column Question
You can buy a steering u joint with a 3/4 round on one side and a double d on the other side from Borgeson.

Re: Steering Column Question
I may have worded my question wrong. I know I can use a u joint to hook a round shaft for my column to a dd shaft. But im looking to figure out how the stock steering column goes into the stock steering shaft? Is it just a spline fitting?

Re: Steering Column Question
pull it apart and look at it... that would be quicker than sitting around waiting for someone else to pull theirs apart and look at it..

Re: Steering Column Question
A stock column bolts to the shaft. I do have a stripped down standard tilt column here if you're interested. It has no upper shroud, stalk, or ignition but should bolt right up.
Unless you're trying to save weight and not have tilt, a Berlinetta column would fit those requirements almost perfectly. About the only thing on it are the ignition and tilt.
Since you're at it, you might also want to look into replacing the rag joint portion with an Astro Van or Jeep steering shaft.
