my IROC has a nasty lean, HELP!!!
Sorry if its in the wrong area but im new to the forum!
Anyways, i just bought an IROC last week, and noticed it sags on the passenger side. It couldnt be the shocks/struts so what else would it be? Tires are fully inflated as well.
Thanks!

Re: my IROC has a nasty lean, HELP!!!
my car sits 1" higher on one side in the rear and perfectly level in the front- this is measured at the center of the control arm mounting bolts and not at the wheelwells, which can vary a bunch due to GM's craptastical body tolerances back in the day.. i came to the conclusion that my body is bent and i'm trying to figure out if it's worth it to take it to a body shop to get it straightened at this point..

Yeah, thats what my original thoughts were. Its up on stands right now, the springs looks fairly new but i have no idea how old they really are. I dont have any records of maintenance for the vehicle either. Fml

park on a level surface... measure from the ground up to the control arm mounting bolts. the rears should be the same as each other, and the fronts should be the same as each other- with a little room for due to the production tolerances of the day and the ravages of time on a cheaply built unibody car.. also try unhooking the rear shocks and see if it levels out.
if they aren't the same, take it to a body shop and have them check it on their frame checker. they should be able to tell how bad it is and straighten it out pretty easily.

Lean = something wrong with springs (assuming the body isn't twisted)
No other options
Shocks/struts can't cause it
Either it needs new springs or someone installed them wrong
"Disconnect rear shocks" won't change anything about "lean"

The body is in great shape. Great car other than the fact the owner had no maintenance records for the vehicle. I'll probably order up some new springs front and rear next week.

Take a close look at the rear suspension. count the coils on the springs, make sure neither are broke, check upper and lower spring mount, check the isolators, maybe even pull the rear springs and compare them.
Good luck!

I disconnected the shock, its still all messed up. I have not ordered springs yet, just like you said i dont want to throw money away if it wont solve the issue. I work at a shop, so im just gonna have the mechanic take a look at it and hear his two cents. But it sags in the front and rear on the passenger side. Springs look fine, but i havent taken them out and got a clear look at them yet.

Re: my IROC has a nasty lean, HELP!!!
So i just went out to take another look and try and find something that looked out of the ordinary.
While i was checking bushings and what not, i noticed the front passenger side sway link is shorter than the drivers side. Got me thinkin, could that be my issue? That would be pretty sweet if thats all it is.
I also noticed the rear passenger tire is tucked in more than my drivers rear. I havent taken the wheel of yet, im thinking it could possibly be a missing spacer. What else could it be?

I forgot to add that the passenger link is about 1/4-1/2inch shorter. The rear links match up aswell

bent sway bars or sway bar mounting hardware can also cause problems, especially on flimsy unibody cars like 80's era F bodies..

Re: my IROC has a nasty lean, HELP!!!
The only thing i have found to be a little off is the sway bar end link. Could it possibly be a strut mount?
Its just weird because the whole passenger side leans. Not just the front, but it sags alot more in front than the rear. What else would cause a whole side of the vehicle to lean? My mind is just blown atm. I contacted the previous owner and of coarse he said that hes never noticed the lean. My buddy did as soon as we pulled out of the lot to go for a test drive.
