UMI or Spohn subframe connectors
Looking at UMI or Spohn subframe connectors, any input on which one to go with and why would be great. Looked at search but threads seemed to be from years ago.

Re: UMI or Spohn subframe connectors
Our P/N 2400 is very popular, very strong and 100% Made by UMI in PA-USA and of US materials.
Let me know if you have any questions and thanks for considering UMI!

Re: UMI or Spohn subframe connectors
Last I checked (which was a while ago) UMI hooks up to the rear LCA mount which to me seems to be a better connection.

Re: UMI or Spohn subframe connectors
Spohn mounts to the rear lca. Round tubing will twist less than square, that being said if i had to do it again i think id go with umi, spohn mounts the rear LCA mount on just the outside of the mount.. 1st complaint.. where they end up in the front is.. well nowhere, the just go straight forward and stop only welding to the pinch and floor... third complaint is the pass side bar on the spohn, i get it , its too clear exaust... but its literaly just tubing layed on top of tubing... cheesy if you ask me.. and thats the only part that actually touches the frame.. the drivers side Y however was nice... my .02

Note that these weld to the bottom and side of the frame as aposed to spohns simply rount pipe, also note where the subframe ends at the front, here is where the spohn does nothing.. just pinchweld and floor

Re: UMI or Spohn subframe connectors
Here again welds on bottom and side of frame with plates, same on the outside not shown in this picture, this is where spohn tube drops in diameter quite a bit, and then a round tube is simply set on top of the main piece and then y's to the frame

Re: UMI or Spohn subframe connectors
Here you see they mount to both sides of the LCA brackets. Instead of just the outside... i just feel that UMI tryed alot harder/ put more effort into there design

Nice. I bought the UMI sub-frame connectors over a year ago, but still haven't put them in for 2 reasons:
1) I am unsure if our welder is strong enough. It's primarily used for welding exhaust pipe. It's a 120V and uses Argon gas. Lot's of splatter.
2) Would it be better to do exhaust mod's first, then the sub-frame connectors or it doesn't matter?

You can certainly weld with the 110V unit. Just make sure to have bright shiny clean metal on both the SFC (remove powder coat) and on the chassis (remove undercoat and/or road grime).
You can always weld the outboard main piece regardless of exhaust. The small "extra" connector is optional. You can do that during exhaust mockup if you have all the exhaust pieces. If you have to leave it off, no big deal.
