How do you remove tilt lever?
How do you remove the tilt lever on a 86 camaro berlinetta? this is the car with all that digital dash crap...I need to pull the steering wheel off and replace the plastic tilt knuckle assembly. But I need to know how to remove the tilt lever first. Anyone here know how to remove it?
Thanks in advance!

The tilt lever is easy. It's the rest of the tilt mechanism that's going to cause you headaches.

Are you guys sure that it unscrews? I've never tried it but it's not like a standard Camaro column.
Here's an image if it helps.

Re: How do you remove tilt lever?
Yeah Scorpner has it right! His pic shows that it does not unscrew like the standard camaro/firebird tilt lever. But how the hell do you remove a tilt lever like that on a 86 berlinetta?

Re: How do you remove tilt lever?
I have had to fix a couple of tilt mechs and I always pull the column so I can work on a bench. That being said, I have never worked on one of these columns, but did you try just pulling out on the lever? I know that is how newer GM tilt levers are removed. I also looked through my 82-92 parts catalog and didn't see any reference to this column, and my service manual that covers the 86 models doesn't refer to it either.
Also good luck pulling the tilt pins they're a real pain lol.
