Re: Trailing arm

The usual response to this type of failure is generally; if this type of damage has occurred there is a very good chance the rest of the car has some very serious rott issues and may not be salvageable or safe to drive anymore. It need to get up on a lift and be inspected for other rot related damages before going any further.

if by some miracle this is the only spot afflicted, welding the mount back on or replacing this mount is not the end of the world provided the chassis above the mount is not totally compromised to the point where repair is impossible.

Re: Trailing arm

Ditto that.

I can't tell what's in that pic; WAY too close up, and the lighting doesn't help. But... these cars don't have "trailing arms", so that description leaves it even more vague.

If it's the arm that connects the rear axle to the "frame", its name is "control arm", and all you need to do is buy a pair from any of a dozen or more mfrs. Here's a typical one. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/lak-20140/overview/ If it's the arm that goes from the "frame" on the pass side to the axle on the driver's side, its name is "panhard bar". http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmr-phr001h/overview/ If it's part of the chassis, welded to the body, then it's probably time to go looking for another car instead of trying to fix that one.

Re: Trailing arm

I agree.

From the pics, it is the rear passenger side lower control arm body mount. Part of the subframe. IF it is localized rust, the rusted part could be cut out, and a donor piece could be used from the junkyard. Then subframe connectors could help strengthen it all back up. Wont be cheap if you cant do it yourself.

BUT, if the whole car is as rusty as that side, Id be afraid to drive it. Id be looking for another car. Either a complete one that you could use this one for parts, or if the rest of this car is good, finding a decent 4th gen shell isn't too hard to do. Then swap stuff from this car to it, again if you can do it yourself.

Good luck.
