Afco coil-over strut
We just finished up test fitting these double adjustable AFCO's on our 3rd gen here at UMI. I get alot of calls from guys looking for a high end set-up for the front, these struts should be pretty awesome for just about any application.
If anybody needs any info please feel free to contact me.

Re: Afco coil-over strut
Craig, the question for you is does this setup limit front tire size as does several other CO kits?

Re: Afco coil-over strut
Any coil over assembly that is installed in a car that didn’t have a spring wrapped around the strut will lose some tire to spring clearance. Therefore, AFCO's design will be identical to any other brand out there with regard to clearance. Also, the clearance is directly related to how stiff the spring is. Since all brands hold the I.D. fixed, the O.D. changes as the wire diameter increased to gain spring rate.

Re: Afco coil-over strut
Craig,
That is something most of us understand from the start.
The issue that pops up is front tire width - putting a 245 tire with a coilover is an inferior combo to a stock style strut with a spring in the pocket with a 275 or larger tire up front.
Now I know that you can fit a 275 tire (with the right wheels) with a QA1 coilover kit, but some others cannot.

Keep in mind there are limited "premium" struts for these cars. You can certainly use the Afco's (as non-coilover) and a big spring to preserve tire size capability.

It would be nice to have all the answers to these questions, but we can't try every tire combination for fitment.
Being a racer all my life, part of the downfall is having to sometimes get creative for a particular application.
Like Ramey mentioned above there are limited premium set-ups for these cars so we got together with AFCO to offer a "high end" front strut system for customers wanting to take it to this level.
I have one set currently sent out to a drag guy so we won't get any tire size feed back from him since he is running skinny's on the front.

Anything come from the drag guy running these? Im curious how the body holds up over time. I was always under the impression that the wheel well wasnt designed to hold the weight of the car.

There are plenty of customers that have run coil-overs in 3rd gens with no issues.

Re: Afco coil-over strut
We just completed our first autocross event with the front struts installed. We are running these with Ground Control weight jacks instead of as a coilover. Based on the first event, I am very impressed with the quality and capability of the struts. There are some quirks to the installation similar to every other front strut with a lower adjuster **** but these were well documented for us and easy to do with a grinder
These are more than you need for a streetcar that doesn't see track time. But for the track rats amoung us, your skill will eventually outgrow the non-adjustable and single adjustable options and these fit nicely as the next progression of struts for suspension control.

Re: Afco coil-over strut
I run a custom coilover up front and clear a 18x9.5 with a 285 tire.. it's not so much the tire clearance that is the issue.. it's more so the wheels.. the strut leans in at an angle so the wheels would contact first.. also because of the angle . The larger the wheel diameter the more width you can get out of it.. I will be going 18x10

Re: Afco coil-over strut
We're running these with a 18 x 10.5 wheel with 315/30/18 tires on all 4 corners. Everything clears if you use a stock style spring. This is with no fender modifications to get the wheels and tires to fit.
