Re: Best shocks and struts for daily driver?

My favorite is the Bilstein HD set up if you have good quality roads and pot hole free pavement. The HD's can be a little harsh if the roads are poorly maintained.

Monroe sensomatic struts & shocks ride nicer and softer making for a good crusier even on rough roads. The handling is compromised compared to the Bilsten HD's, KYB's or other performance set ups.

The non adjustable KYB's were a pretty good compromise with decent ride and good performance but I like the Bilstein's better except when I hit grooved or rough pavement.

I've kept the soft Monroe's on my stock 91 RS Convertible because it's a cruiser. I love Bilstein HDs on my 91 RS with the 383 LS1 and other goodies.

There are a lot of excellent set ups, what's best will depend on how you drive the car and road quality in you area. The KONi set up is excellent too. What's your IROC have on it now?

KYB gas adjust rear and G2 KYB struts are a good choice for a daily driver and won't break the bank.

I agree, with the above. Also you will save big chunk of change with the KYB set up.

Re: Best shocks and struts for daily driver?

I put KYB Gas-A-Justs on a couple cars, 88 Lincoln Mark VII (rear) and my friends 73 Vette. We both took them of because they were too stiff. The Gr2's are OK.

My 79 Trans Am has Monroe Sens-A-Tracks, a nice, not firm shock.

I bought 4 Monroe OES Spectrum's for my 89 IROC_Z VERT, but have not installed them yet.

Re: Best shocks and struts for daily driver?

I'm running yellow koni's on my 90 Formula WS6. Ride is rough, feels like the car is really taking a pounding on a rough road. Makes me want to stay off them. I admit, the car could use some bushing refreshing, they are 26 years old after all. That may help the situation. I don't think they would be good for daily driver. I run bilsteins on my BMW 545 w/sport pak, which is a much tighter suspension. The bilsteins are perfect for that car, would like to try them on a 3rd gen.

Gas-A-Justs made my Lincoln and friend's 1973 Vette feel like it was getting beaten to death.

Re: Best shocks and struts for daily driver?

On my last third gen (a 90 GTA) I had moog springs and Koni yellows all round and setup on the softest setting. Not sure if it was the springs but yeah that thing rode rough. Held its own on the track but always felt I went too far in the balance of the street/ track ready

My current TA has eibach springs and KYB shocks. It rides much nicer. May be progressive eibach springs but it seems to soak the bumps but also not wade about; maintains its composure pretty well. Yet to take it to the track

Re: Best shocks and struts for daily driver?

The KYB "Excel-G" (they were called "GR 2's") are stock replacements for our cars (Twin-tube)and the KYB "Gas A Just" are a step up (Mono-tube) and a little stiffer.

Here's there video explaining = http://www.kyb.com/kyb-tv/the-differ...n-tube-shocks/

I have the MOOG 5665 springs with "Gas A Just" shocks in the rear and there perfect for me. Stiff is what I want.

KYB makes a "Quality" product and suggest the KYB "Excel-G's for most DD's.
I just like a little stiffer shock for my DD application = "Gas A Just" for me in the rear.
