egr block off plate

My new headers don't have any egr or air tube connections on them, so I am removing my AIR system. I'm looking for a spot I can buy a block off plate, since I don't have the resources or knowlegde to make one. Has anyone been able to find one, or can someone fab one for me? I have an LO3

You can keep the egr as it does not connect to the exhaust, except though the heads. Mr. Gasket has a block-off plate that Advance Auto Parts will have in their local warehouse.

Now I'm not too knowledgable when it comes to mechanics, but doesn't the EGR system pull the exhaust gasses through those nice metal tubes I so quickly took a sawsall too? Those were only connected to my manifolds, which would mean the egr system would not be able to get any exhaust to recirculate. Wouldn't that render the whole system useless anyway?

camarorsssss - is your plate for stock intake manifold, and if you don't mind me asking, why are you getting rid of it?

Re: egr block off plate

I actually had it installed on an edelbrock performer intake, im not sure if there is much difference though from the stock one. i can get you a picture of it if you want. i dont need it because i was gonna block off the EGR, but here in NY i really need all my emissions stuff for inspection so i ended up keeping my EGR setup.

You can leave the EGR as-is. There are passages within the heads themselves that allow teh passage of exhaust gasses from the exhaust ports to the EGR.

evil_dave - The tubes that you cut with your sawzall are the A.I.R. tubes. I'm not sure what the "AIR" stands for, but they simply take a portion of your exhaust gasses and feed them directly to your catalytic converter. Pretty much nothing to do with your EGR system. You will, however, have to remove your smog pump, and a lot of the tubing that covers your pass. side valve cover. Research the smog pump delete for more info.

Hope that helps,

KZad

It actually pumps external air into the exhaust via the smog pump. Air is added to the unburned fuel, the temperature of the exhaust alone causes this mixture to ignite. However, the EGR feeds the intake with exhaust gas. Exhaust gas is used because is inert, meaning that it does not burn.

Re: egr block off plate

I already removed the tubing, as far as I can tell, I just need to get a egr block plate and plug up some vacuum lines.

Which leads me to my next question... which vacuum lines? The mechanic who was helping me has since deployed, leaving me to try to fix it on my own.

Re: egr block off plate

For deleting the air system you do not need to plug any vacuum lines off the throttle body. Have you already removed the egr?
