Died on me
i was driving with my 2 friends in my 89 camaro TBI. and im about an 1/8 miles from my place and my engine just cut out
now no fuel is going through the injectors and the clip for one of the injectors broke (the clip holding the unit plugging into the injector)
fuel pump is still running, the guy at my local chevy dealership said it could be the crank sensor if my security light was staying on while trying to start it, but thats not it.
maybe my in line fuel filter is completely clogged?
i also checked the injector fuses and they looked fine

Re: Died on me
pull the fuel lines off the back of your tbi unit and see if fuel is coming through there.. if so then you can narrow the prob down to the tbi unit if not then its prolly your fuel filter or a screwed up fuel pump....

Re: Died on me
well, i was about to take off the fuel lines to the TBI unit, but i decided to try and start it up
and it fired up for a second and then stopped pumping gas, my buddy thinks its the pressure regulator in the throttle body

Re: Died on me
last night i removed the fuel inlet line to the TBI unit, and some gas shot out and then stopped after the pressure was relieved
so now it could be the pressure regulator or the fuel injectors?

Re: Died on me
Sounds pretty Similar to mine. My 89 died and then refused to restart, though in my case the starter did not turn either. your 89 should have a VATS system on it and they are prone to breaking two very small wires on the back of the ignition switch. Might wanna read up on that system as well. There is also a relay that controls the fuel pump and a power steering pressure switch that are in the fuel pump electric system too.
I take it the car cranks ( motor turns when you hit the key) but wont fire ?
I have a hard time believing that anything in the TBI unit itself would fail and cause the car to quit, bad injectors get bad over time ( usually) Is the car throwing any codes ?
Good luck

Re: Died on me
you need to make sure the fuel pump is running or at least getting power. There is a relay mine is showing evidence of overheating as in the connector is kinda melted, relay i beleive is on the firewall drivers side. might start there.

Re: Died on me
so me and my buddy went to the jukyard today and picked up a fuel pressure regulator and 2 sets of injectors
cleaning my regulator and injectors didnt work
then we put the other regulator on with my injectors...didnt work
then the other regulator with the other injectors.... the driver side injector just poured out fuel and the passenger side didnt spray, pour, or even leak
and new injectors are what? $200 a piece? and idk where to even find the regulator
i swear the whole TBI unit was probably just a giant joke from chevy

Re: Died on me
well, i still couldnt find the fuel pressure regulator
and at the prices for the fuel injectors, i could go to the junyard and rip out of complete 350 TPI, wiring harness, and ECM for under $300
i think it'd be almost worth it to do that, even though its more work
