What's the best way to clean gunk out of my engine

My 83 Camaro Cross-Fire has 165000 miles. Theres alot of gum and varnish in the engine just from what I can see through the valve covers. Whats the best additive for this. I want something for the gas too. I change my oil regularly and it aint helping. Id rather not use seafoam because it makes way too much smoke when you first start it after pouring it throughout the car. I accually heard z max doesn't work either. Please help

Look up a product called " Sea foam" or do a search for Sea Foam on this bord.

he just said he didnt want to use seafoam.

its really hard to get the inside of your engine clean without taking it all apart. id say seafoam is a good bet, you dont have to use it through a vacuum hose like you see, you can actually just pour it into your oil before your doing an oil change, and run it for alittle while with it in there, then rain it all out. i myself have never done that, i just dont feel that good about letting some random liquid floating around with my oil. but anyways you can either put it in your oil, or your gas, or through a vacuum hose.

Once a year on the saturn I use a liter of auto trans fluid for a 100 km to 200 km in the engine oil during regular driving. It has lots of detergents in it..... But by far the best I have used is full syn oil for a few months and then just switched back to regular oil and it helped enormously.

The Camaro I recently put in full syn and never had any issues before with gunk or varnish

ATF Works great! Cheap, too.
