whats the difference between AMUL and ANLU

I did a search but didn't find much information about the AMUL chip. I recently acquired a AMUL chip from a 1990 Caprice with a 350 TBI engine for a 8746 ECM and was wondering what the difference between this chip and the popular ANLU chip was. Is it just the speed limiter is on the AMUL chip or something else all together?

Re: whats the difference between AMUL and ANLU

AMUL is a 5.0l, 700r4 truck calibration for the '7747 ECM.

Everything I have read says it came from a L05 with "7" in the VIN and 8746 ECM and came in 89 and 90 caprice's with TBI. I know it was in a 8746 ECM because I pulled it out myself since I didn't need another ECM because I already have two 8746 ECM's

This is a CP from one site

I've gotten two ANLU ECUs out of '89 and '90 Caprices. One was a cop car ('90) and the other was a civi ('89). Both were 5.0L w/ TH200-4R

this is a AUML not ANLU. The ANLU is what everyone swears is a 5.7 with speed thing disabled

Re: whats the difference between AMUL and ANLU

I see the confusion, your title and your first post said AMUL which is for a 7747 ECM and your last post said AUML which is for the 8746 ECM.

You are correct! sometimes my fingers do not want to work along with my brain since I do the hunt and peck type of typing. I am sorry for the confusion. it is the AUML. now that we all know what I am talking about, can anyone tell me the difference lol

Re: whats the difference between AMUL and ANLU

is there any difference? I looked on here and from what I could tell the speed limiter is the same on both chips https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tbi/...code-real.html so I am guessing they are both are at least close but I am sure there has to be a difference somewhere to have different part numbers. Maybe fed/cali emissions thing?

Re: whats the difference between AMUL and ANLU

well, if you are at all computer savvy, I would download the $61 dis from moates, and find a hex compare program. Then compare the ANLU and AUML bins. you can then look at the locations in the disassembly to see the differences. Be warned that it will be time consuming. I just got done editing a $0D asm file to match the bin I wanted and it took me a month working 2-3 hrs a night. On the other hand, you end up knowing the code fairly well. If you don't understand code, the easier thing to do would be to use TUNERPRO RT and load the correct XDF. Then load each bin and go thru all the tables and constants to see the differences. It is also time consuming, but a lot easier for a non-programmer to understand

find a hex compare program
I am guessing Hex workshop will work for this? This is what we used to use when comparing smart card code years ago

I have never worked with hex workshop, but I would imagine it will work fine

There is a difference tool built into TunerPro. Read ANLU in, then set up AUML as a compare BIN. Then use the difference tool to show the differences between the cals.

The ANLU calibration is for the 1989 MY. And the AUML calibration is for the 1990 MY. Most likely the differences are for emissions purposes. As the years went on emissions got tighter.

It also seems GM made small tweaks in torque converter lockup routines between year models as well. Most likely to correspond with a change in vehicle weight or axle ratio.

Sorry guys, I should have checked my notebook. ANLU IS the 5.7L from the cop car. The 5.0L one I am talking about above is APFN... Hopefully didn't cause to much confusion.
