Way to go! patent that shitt and start counting. 3D printers opened the field way up for custom stuff. Nice job man.

What type of plastic are they made of? How many miles have you put on them? I'd be worried about the heat warping them. I have a few things printed off my friends 3d printer and the plastic is not a real high temp material.

The material is Ultem 9085. This material does not burn, it is used in many aerospace and automotive applications. It is extruded at a very high temp and in a heated oven at 190 degrees Celsius.
They are completely at home on top of the engine as an air cleaner assembly.
Your friends 3D printer most likely uses PLA or ABS materials. Good light weight plastics. I would not use either for this application.

Why on earth would you use open-element filters when cold (ambient) air has been known to improve performance since 1960 or so?

Very cool! But then you lose the "cold air" effect of the functional hood scoops.

Well...I am still using the cold air induction from the hood with the solenoid and flap removed. My Crossfire Corvette was starving for air. But thanks for asking.

Re: Crossfire TBI 3D Printed Air Cleaners

Same reason an open element on a single tbi motor can benefit more from the increased volume of air versus the cold air from the factory snorkle. Sometimes volume beats out temp. But if you can get volume and low temp that's even better!

Even though what he says is true, I really like the fact someone is working with the cross fire. Doing something different.
You don't see it much here or anywhere for that matter.

Schurkey, I'm really glad to see the term "ambient" used here.
But I guess calling a system "cold air" will sell better then a "ambient air" system.
