Car: 92 Form, 91 Z28, 89 GTA, 86 Z28
Engine: 5.7 TPI, LG4
Transmission: 700R4, 700R4
Axle/Gears: 3.27, 2.73
What year did the 700r4 get better?
Was it late 86, or 87, or 88? I forget. Is there a certain year that it got an electric speedo or did it vary across the line? Are speedo parts interchangable / can I remove speedo parts from a newer tranny and put my 86 parts in it?
Thanks

Almost every year got better. Get the newest you can find. The speedo parts should interchange.

1987 is when the 700R4 got a 10-vane pump, and some other goodies. Yes the speedo stuff will interchange. 87+ Firebirds have electronic speedos, and 90+ Camaros.

My '86 T/A has an electronic speed sensor, so don't let the speed sensor be a deciding factor when purchasing a 700R4. Check the date stamp on the upper edge of the tranny pan edge rail to insure you get a later model.

The 700-R4 did keep getting better, but the biggest improvements and most noticable 1's were in 87. If u are going to have a powerful engine, its best to do it with an 87-92 700-R4.
