Aluminum l98's, visual ID?
I can pick up a set of these cheap, but am having trouble getting the seller to get the casting numbers to me. Is there any way to tell the 86-87 ones from the latter 113's. From what I understand the difference between these two is the exhaust port. If this is the case I'm guessing that the early ones have a more square port and the 113's have a more pronounced D shape. Anyone know for sure?

They should look like aluminum, but with perimiter bolt heads... are they really dirty?

Well, they are on ebay and the only pics of them don't show the exhaust port.

well if all you have is pictures then it is harder to tell with out the #'s. I had a set of aluminums and the center intake bolt holes are at a different angle on 88 and above(i think). You basically have to match the year of the heads with the year of the intake, as there are 2 different bolt angles, 87 or 88 was the year that changed.
I'm to lazy to go look in the book right now.

Hmm, I thought all aluminum L98's had the old style intake bolt pattern.

Just an FYI, it does not matter if the angle of the center bolt holes in the intake match the heads. You can always enlogate the holes in the intake........ On a side note, I could never get the seller to email me the casting #'s so I did'nt bid and the auction ended tonight. Now that I think about it though, were the 86-87 heads angle plug?
