Help me Choose best head for my LT4 Hot cam

I have an LT4 Hot cam that I do not want to change out. I am running STOCK Vortecs now but I want more. I am deciding between E-Tec 170's and E-Tec 200 heads. I want aluminum heads not iron. The 200's seem to flow close to what the LT4 heads do and I want these, but I am worried that the 200 cc intake port is too big for my HOT cam. Would I be happier with the 170 heads?

Does any one have a Carbed 350 with E-tec heads and a HOT cam? How is the power? Thanks

It's my understanding that the Edelbrock Etec 170's is a copy of the stock Vortec head which you already have. So an upgrade would be to the Etec 200's. The LT1 Hot Cam is not to big for the Etec 200's. Looking at your setup the 200's will be just fine. Allen

E-Tec 170s are not a copy of the Vortecs.

They have stainless valves, you can run 1.6 roller rockers, you can stuff in big springs, they have a bigger exhaust valve, good bowl work, and flow ~80% E/I ratio.

Go with the 200s, you will be all good.

However that cam is a bit mismatched with that huge exhaust spread.

Both the E-Tec 170s and 200s have great E/I ratios, a cam with a smaller spread in duration or a single pattern cam would suit you best.

I got the 170s on my motor, when I bought the heads I only had 1 5/8" headers, the 200s require 1 7/8" headers, which I have now.

So if I had the choice again it would 200s but I have no problem making a bunch of power with the 170s.

However without a cam change, if you stick with the Hotcam, your numbers will not change a whole bunch from what they are now.

Thanks for the replies. I feel the 170's will be an upgrade for me because my Vortecs are not ported in any way and I am only running 1.5 rockers cause I have small springs on them.

I was worried about the size of the exhaust port on the 200's, since I have hooker 2055's (1 5/8), and also the intake manifold not matching up without port work to it. this makes the 200's seem too big for my application.

I dynoed both combos on Dyno2000 and the 200's make more power just because of the 2.02 / 1.60 combo. I also tried using the Roller cam that Edelbrock makes for their E-Tec Crate Engine that advertizes 435 hp/ 435 tq and Dyno 2000 seems to like the Hot cam more, even though it is way smaller.

Dyno 2000 estimates average gains of 18 hp above 4500 using the 170's and 1.6 rockers, over my current Vortec/1.5 setup.

Dyno 200 is ok, however it most certainly does not give a complete picture of reality.

Now that cam in the E-Tec 170 crate motor is like 234*@.050 right. Alos it has a much tigher spread in duration like only 4* right?

234/238 .540/.548, here are the specs

Thats a much bigger cam, likely designed by Edelbrock just for that crate combo, matched well for the E-Tec 170 head.

Likely you will pick up some power, it wont be alot though.

Most solid Hot Cam cars I see run right about what you do, however I have seen a couple dip into the high 11s, 11.8 or so.

Now, but if you really plan to start spraying the juice to it you will have a great combo, high flow E-Tec exhaust ports, and large duration spread in the Hot Cam.

Maybe you would be intersted in buying my ported and polished E-Tec 170 heads, maybe I could jump up to the 200s.

I big maybe but could be realiy.

Just tossing aout an idea.
