Is a 92 T-5 transmission different, and did they ever put TPI motors in an RS??

Well, we just picked up a 92 Camaro RS. It has a 305 TPI motor and a T-5 manual trans. The clutch is really bad. When I looked in the Summit catalog, it says 82-91 Camaro/Firebird for a clutch kit. Is the 92 version different? Where can I get a reasonable clutch kit for a 92? Also, was the 25th Anniversary Camaro the only time they put TPI motors in RS Camaros? The car does have an "F" for the 8th VIN digit. I thought they were all V6s or TBI V8s. Any
help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

92 is not different. I'd recommend a Centerforce Dual Friction; I'm on my second one of them in my 83, I'd have to say it's the best clutch I've ever had for a stock application. It's silky smooth in bumper-to-bumper traffic, yet when it's time to go it hooks up like a piece of metal. Don't buy a clutch (or any other car parts or service for that matter) based on the low bid, you'll be disappointed for sure. Buy the cheapest thing you can find, you'll end up with.... the cheapest thing you can find, just like anything else. You'll hate it until the minute you finally yank it out and throw it in the trash.

They never put a TPI motor in an RS, except for the B4C police cars. You might have run across one of those, which is pretty cool. Or, somebody may have put one in there, like your 84. Check the motor's VIN digit. If you have the build sheet, look for RPO B4C.

Just checked the codes, and it does say B4C. So what does this mean? Thanks for the help.

B4C is the option code for the police model. Essentially it's a Z28 with an RS's body. I think they were all 305 T-5s. It also means you are the lucky owner of a very desirable thirdgen.

What you have is an old cop car. Several states bought those as highway interceptor-type vehicles. Wisconsin, California, Texas, and a handful of others used to have them. A few loacl police depts also ordered them, but most of them were state property. It probably also has 12" front brakes, the same as the 1LE option. Measure the rotors. They'll be either 10½" or 12". People pay a surprising amount of money to duplicate that system.

Rockenbach trade-in? They've had some pretty nifty cars go through there...

Nope, not from Rockenbach. It was from Sherman Dodge in Skokie. Do you live by Rockenbach Vader? I am very close to the dealership. So even though it's red and looks completely like a regular RS, it was still a police car? Was it possible for someone to order the B4C package? The car has 112,000 miles on it and it needs paint bad and the front fascia is really beat up and torn. It runs good other than a bad clutch. We paid $1300 for it? Is this a good deal? Thanks for all the help.

In the tech section, it says that the 1LE police Camaros have a "special axle ratio." I think mine is a 1LE too because it has the 145 speedometer, 16" aluminum rims, and 4 wheel disk brakes. I'll check the RPO codes tomorrow (too tired to right now). What is the "special axle ratio"? Also, what is the HP of the motor? Is it 205 or 230? It lists both those figures in the tech data for a 305 TPI with a T-5, but I'm not sure. Thanks for all the help guys.

Just checked, it's a 1LE. Does this mean anything for performance? Thanks.

Do a search for "1LE." You should find all the upgraded stuff there. Things off the top of my head are: Superior brakes (very desirable), special fuel tank baffling.......
X84, they probably just repainted the car after it was released from service. Look on the roof and you may be able to see four small dimples about four inches from each window. This is where the holes for the light bars used to be. They fill them in after the take all the cop stuff off.

They're rated at 230HP. I dont think there is any diff. between a 91 & 92. Get the centerforce dual friction, its the only one that has held up in my car (3 yrs now), I blew up 3 cheaper clutches (dont ask me how a stock 305 would do that, they just fell apart) in it before the dual-friction, its a good clutch. Some B4C cars got the front 1LE brakes, some didnt. mine didnt . B4C was a kinda mix-breed, you can get alot of good options, and its the only way to get AC with 1LE options
