Valvetrain Help
hey guys, I need to know which valvetrain to get to match my cam...this is the specs on the cam 63-08-503-8 Comp Cams "Extreme" Hydraulic Roller Camshaft, 224 / 230, .502 / .510 112 LSA, High performance street machines, 2000+ stall, gears, choppy idle.....i've been recommended a few things like having a 1.750" intall hieght springs, and to get titanium retainers...but the guy that is doing my heads said titanium retainers is just spending money, you don't really need them, he said the steel ones will work fine...what do you guys think? he told me to get the springs and the retainers, i'm guessing he can get all the little stuff that is also needed...what would you guys suggest for springs and retainers? also could you give me a link to show me exactly what part your talking about...thank you in advance...

Comp calls for 987 springs and that is what I would go with. Titanium retainers will delay valve float with hydraulic roller lifters, but I wouldn't use them if this isn't going to be making power over 6000rpm. Recommended spring should be listed on your cam card, along with setup specs.

yea i didn't order the cam yet..i was gonna get everything all together and order it all at once from one site....can you show me a link to those 987's, because that is what thunderracing recommended too , but i don't believe he has those on his site and i couldn't find them in jegs or anything...i'm going to be running a stealth ram and that cam, do you think i'll be making power over 6,000 rpms? so is titanium retainers a must then or no??

Your cam is on page 144 in the middle. Scroll right and you will see recommended components. The ones in red are what is recommended.
Titanium retainers are by no means a must.

Titanium retainers are only for reduced mass and thus a delay in valve float. Instead of titanium retainers i would invest in some beehive springs. I can't believe it took 50 years to come up with them, the are the best thing since sliced bread.

The best thing to do is call comp cams and let them tell you what you need. They will probably give you the part #'s of what to order from jegs.
