msd distributor with zz4 cam?

my car recently died on me and wouldnt restart after seemingly running fine, i tracked it down to the distributor gear with a lot of help from the members here. im running a zz4 cam, with an msd distributor, and the zz4s need "melonized teeth." does msd carry a gear that will work with a factory roller cam, or will a gmpp part fit on my msd?

what is a melonized teeth gear? I have never heard of that in my life. WHat is so special about the gear on the back of the ZZ4 cam? I cant answer your question but I know who can. Go to the MSD message forums and ask your question their. I PROMISE you will get an answer there is no time from one of MSD's techs http://www.msdignition.com/forums/in...load/index.php

n/m i talked to the guy i got the car from and he says its a tpis zz409 cam, waiting on the specs now. posted at msds site and a moderator said melonized gears are used for most all cams, dont know why the gmpp page said it like it was something special.

GM made a lot of distributors before 1987. That's why it's "special".

If MSD doesn't think they're "special", have they explained why the ZZ409 chewed it up?
