Heads.

Im replacing the heads on my 350, im going to have a bunch of edelbrock performer rpm stuff on my engine, and i was wondering if i could go with the performer rpm heads, or someone told me to go sportsman II heads, with the alum edelbrock heads would i have to upgrade cooling sys? thanks in advance!!

The Edelbrock heads will bolt on with no mods required. They are also known to be very well built and reliable.

Ok, the edelbrock heads do need hardened pushrods. But they are aluminum heads, so do i need to upgrade my cooling system? other than the pushrods, is there anything else that i will need if i go with edelbrock aluminum heads.

You gotta have washers on the head bolts/studs so the head of the bolt won't dig into the aluminum.

Also use antiseize on the spark plugs to keep them from galling the threads in the head.

Other than that, you're fine. You would only need to upgrade the cooling system if you are going with a higher compression (like .5-1 point higher), or if the engine's gonna see a lotta high rpms. Aluminum dissipates heat better than iron, so your car (all other things being equal) will run cooler just by changing to aluminum heads.

Just pay real close attention to the temp guage for the first 1K miles. Not to sound mean, but as luck has it, the water pump will go out in about that time frame. Always happens that way.

dont i also need .1" longer pushrods? and are you saying that all water pumps will go out in that timeframe? or is its gonna go, thats usually when?

I was just referring to Murpy's Law. "If anything can go wrong, it will." It's just a case of "While you're changing that, why don't you do this? And since your gonna do that, you might as well do this." etc.

As for the pushrods, you'd have to ask Edelbrock. I know that a larger cam will sometimes require longer pushrods, but the only aluminum heads that I've heard of that need them (and suggests them) are the TFS heads due to the funny valve angle.
