I have a set of Fel-pro head gaskets (part# 8510PT) for my LG4, and need to know if I should use sealant on them. I don't think that I should, but could use a little reassurance. Also, does anyone have a favorite sealant for head bolts? Thanks.

Liquid teflon is what the factory uses on head bolts.

yeah, i like the stuff made by permatex(spelling?)every motor i have ever built i never had a problem with this stuff.some guys i know use indian head shellac on the head bolts and they swear by it.

On the gasket? No. Dead dry, just like they come out of the package.

On the bolt threads? Yes. Liquid teflon, RTV, gasket shellack, etc. Take your pick.

for the head bolts any non hardening sealer would be fine, NOT RTV or anything like it. i use K&W spray copper on head gaskets

No sealer of any kind is recommended on the head gasket.
In fact you want the block and head surfaces clean and free of any oil or grease. Brake cleaner spray works good for this.

yeah i know you're not suspose to use anything but the K&W copper sure works great in every single engine i've ever used it on for the last few (20+) years
