Dirt track heads?

Can someone take a look at this and tell me what you think?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

A while back I got a rebuilt motor with a rebuilt set of 305 heads.

Casting no 354434 262/267/305 heads 1.7 In and 1.5Ex

Are these the same thing?

How can you put such big valves in a 305 head? Or can you but now they have to be used in a 4" bore motor?

I did not think my heads had any performance potential so I got different ones ( '601 castings)

Did I mess up and overlook what I already have?

Those are the same heads as your 434 but with bigger valves. For the bigger valves to have any effect the chamber and blow need to be ported and unshrouded. It would not be a good idea to run those on anything other than a 4" bore motor. The valves will simply be too close to the cylinder wall restricting flow below smaller valve values.

So is it the valves and higher compression ratio that make these heads good performers? or is it the combustion chamber shape?

Are these heads (when stock) any good for a 305 ?

They just look like warmed over stock heads IMO. Not bad for a stock rebuild.

So what would perform better?

A set of 601 casting 305 heads with oversize intake valves 1.94 x 1.5 or these 354434 but in stock form with 1.7 and 1.5 valves or the stock heads on my LO3 '88 tbi motor?

I am assuming the '601's are best, the 354434 next in performance with the TBI heads the worst right?

You got it! Those ebay heads won't work on your 305

For a budget built 305 the 1.94x 1.50 valve combo is best.
I perfer the 416 castings. For a 350 use 1.94 x 1.60"

Apparently according to some that have reworked and flowed these heads, the TBI heads when ported have good street performance potential and flow. I've never flowed them thou.

The 2.02 valve is overkill in a 305 head wether for the 305 ( not recommended) or a 350. The 1.94's flow plently otf air (when combined with porting and a quality valve job) and require less unshrouding and the head is more durable.
The 2.02 valve is way too close to the 305 bore wall.
