T5 swap on goodwrench block starter didnt work.

I am doing the t5 swap on the goodwrench 2 piece rms the block is probably close to 20 years old ..

I went to autozone and asked for a starter for 84 camaro manual 5.0.

I got a starter that uses long and one short bolt.

This starter I couldnt get to work with the 153 tooth flywheel.

The starter bolts I got in the help section gm standard bolts 1 long 1 short.
They where to big so I had to uses 3 or 4 washers.
I tried to reverse the washers when I couldnt get enough shims to try and lineup the flywheel and starter pinion..I returned this starter..

Need a little help...I will be looking at other starters today..

You sure that's a 153 tooth flywheel? 153 (little) and 168 (big) are the two usual sizes but GM did do some oddballs from time to time.

Almost all GM blocks are drilled/tapped for both bolt pattern starters- straight and staggered. The fact you have an older block doesn't mean it is any different in that area than the more modern ones. At least back to the early 70s (don't know about stuff built in the really early days). Some may not be dual bolt patterned (only one or the other) but that doesn't mean the starter pad is in a different location.

Also see my reply to your post (and others) in the other thread.

I have the smaller flywheel to fit in the bellhousing
The guy who I got the flywheel from said he used a staggered
mounted starter I didnt know I could use that thought it
was for the bigger flywheel..
