LT1 with chip?
my buddy gots himself a 96 trans am bone stock, not even an air box mod and he bought a chip programer(super chips) and tryed to tell me that it made a big big diference in the car. there is no way that a bone stock LT1 motor could have that much increase in power with just a programer could it?

If the LT1 is stock, probably not, especially an obdii LT1(96-97). A Obdi LT1(94-95) can yield about 13 RWHP with a tune running on 91 ocatane. An odbii LT1 can be converted to obdi. I notice a difference with my tune, nothing huge though.

A good tune will make 10-15 RWHP on an otherwise stock car, with a nice increase over the whole curve, OBD1 or OBD2. And that's mail-order, a dynotune (although not a good deal for the money without at least a cam) could make more.
The tunes those hand held devices have are crap. He could see 10 rwhp at best at the peak. Once he starts modding the tune could actually cost him power. He needs a real tune from madz28.com or pcmforless.com. If he went from running 87 to 91 octane as well as tuning it, there will be a big difference. These cars stock NEED 91 octane (10.5:1 CR and aluminum heads). It even says so in the owners manual and on the fuel door. That's probably where his biggest difference came from. My car (stock or modded) runs like total **** on 87.
