15.97 quarter? WTF??? AHHH!!

I G-Teched my car today and it ran a 15.97, I am furious... I am about to throw my TPI out the window and get a freaking carb setup.

Look at my set up... It should run 13's EASY! Something is not right.

I know my computer is a little effy but hell. I did not even get to 100 mph before the quarter was up so I know it was not a faulty G-Tech.

Here are somethings that may be wrong.

I have a:
305 knock sensor
305 electronic spark module.
iffy MAF (I think)
This is crazy...

I am sooo... close to giving this car away...

I am changing the spark plugs out tomorrow... those stupid *** bosch plats should have left a long time ago.

I wonder if I am misfiring???

You really need to get the 305 detonation sensor out of there. It may be hearing as little as the valve train, and could be killing your timing. If you want a quick/dirty test, place a 100K resistor in the circuit in place of the sensor and G-Tech it again.

if the KS was killing my timing wouldn't the SES light come on?

What tuning have you done to it? If not, that would be the first place to look.

Also, as Vader stated, the 305 KS has different harmonics than the 350. So it is probably detecting 'false knocks' and pulling a ton of timing out - it kills performance similar to visualizing a picture of Rosey O'Donnell nude.

Yeah but no one has answered my question? If indeed the KS was the problem wouldn't I get an SES light? I have a custom prom burned for my engine.

No, it will just beleive that it is hearing detonation and reduce timing to compensate for something that may not be happening.

I will fix it... but do you honestly believe the KS will add 3 seconds to my quarter?

Doesnt the ESM and KS work hand in hand? I mean what is the real function of the ESM?

I found the MEMCAL bad. I am in the middle of soldering in a new PROM chip into the memcal.

With my previous memcal, you could not diagnose a problem via the blink SES light, which happens to be a serious problem. New memcal works like a champ. So I need to put my custom prom chip in and (knock on wood) I will see if I get a 13 second quarter.

With a bad memcal, the computer runs the engine with crazy timing and dog *** rich. so we shall see in a few days. I started my body work and the car is apart since I am painting it in a couple days.

go buy the proper 350 related parts and post back, don't act all mad that you're using improper components initially, fix the known problems then get back to us.

Of course I can be mad, since I had lower quarter times with the same setup and same sensors that are supposively not suppose to be in my car.

well i don't go online and talk about issues my car has without first fixing the ones that I know about, so we can get a better idea of what's wrong. That's like pulling 2 plug wires and talking about knowing that they're bad, but not fixing it first.

AAARRRGGH! You just HAD to go there, DIDN'T you?

I was doing just FINE, scanning some sites and clicking off some replies, pretty much minding my own business and having a reasonably good Monday. And then you just HAD to go there....

Dammit! I could have gone all the way to the next election without having that image in my head. NOW we have to stomach that, and then go through it ALL OVER AGAIN when someone in the next campaign asks how Hillary would get back at Bill for those Oval Office encounters. GEEZ! It will be bad enough to try to figure out just what or whom will be under the desk doing whatever to whomever might or might not be sitting there (Cuban cigars nothwithstanding).

OOOooh, that makes me MAD!

nelapse,

So long as the signal from the KS is being received by the ESC, and communication between the ESC and ECM is maintained, the system will not necessarily set a trouble code. As far as the ECM is concerned, that would mean the ESC is working just as it should, no problem.

The ECM really doesn't know anything about the displacement of the engine. It only has to know what size injectors are being used and the amount of intake air, and calculates injector pulse accordingly. We tell the ECM what injectors are installed in the programming, and it measure intake air with the MAF. Of course, at WOT we do have to skew the injector pulses to compensate for different displacements, but if it isn;t going lean, that's not likely a problem.

We know that the 305 detonation sensor is too sensitive for the 350 block casting, since the larger cylinders are closer to the sensor with less coolant between. We know that the ESC will cut timing based solely on the sensor input, so we must match the sensor to the block. The rest of the system doesn't really care what the displacement might be. A speed/density ECM is different, but the MAF system doesn't know, and doesn't care.

That should be about all you'll need to change. While the ESC may not be optimal, it should work fine with the proper sensor.

The system could be pulling enough timing to really hurt the performance.

nerr, my bad.
anyways, the sensors usually would throw a code, but ive seen weird **** happen and not throw codes. i doubt though that your missing 300hp (every 10 hp being a tenth theory)... if you are...youve got bigger problems.
