Intake Manifold Gasket Help?
Hi,
I'm new to the forum & to Chevy V8's. Been playing with old British sports cars mostly. Now, I'm putting a 1988 TBI smallblock truck motor in an '85 Jaguar.
I've Been lurking here a while & learning what I can.
I'm currently taking all my accessories & TBI stuff of the old motor & putting it all on a goodwrench crate motor (pre '86) using a NAPA rebuild gasket set.
The question:
The rearmost coolant ports on my heads & on my intake manifold are full size & look like all the other coolant ports. The gaskets have these ports blocked by a metal plate that has about a 1/16 inch hole drilled in it. The plate is clearly stamped "rear port". I foolishly tossed the old gaskets without noticing how they looked. It looks like the plate could be easily removed, but I can't help wonder why it's there.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
THANKS!
Jim

So RU just putting the TBI on the pre 86 intake . I think this may work as long as the bore on the intake is the same . You will allso need an electric fule pump of some sort .If you are trying to put the 88 intake on the creat 86 motor it wont work .The heads are differant . If I wer doing this I would just slap a edelbrock performer intake and holley 600cfm on it and be done with it . That jag will rip .

Thanks for the response.
I'm using the TBI intake, Holley 670 TBI & headers for now. Budget restraints. I plan future cam & intake upgrades. I want to learn this ECM programming stuff.
Looks like the center 4 mounting bolt holes on the manifold need to be slightly enlarged & everything else will line up OK.

If you look at that tbi intake you will notice that the bolts ,bolt strait down . On the pre 86 intake the bolts bolt on an angle into the heads .You will need a intake that will adapth that tbi to your pre 86 heads.

?????
The center two intake mount bolts on each side are at 72 degrees vs. 90 degrees for the rest. Elongate 4 bolt holes in the intake, and it's on.
Besides, there isn't any adapter to do anything like that.
