adjustable pushrod question

I got a comp cams adjustable pushrod(has two nuts attached to lengthen/shorten pushrod), and I'm not sure how to use it. To use this correctly, do I need to turn the crank till the lifter is all the way down, install the pushrod and tighten the rocker arm? Will I most likely need to lenthen it when i turn the crank to raise the lifter? Any info would be appreciated.

Re: adjustable pushrod question

the lifter should be sitting as low as possible in the bore then what i would do is manually hold the rocker in place and adjust it to the angle i want turn it sideways put the pushrod in and expland it until it is properly seated

Re: adjustable pushrod question

Pushrod length should be optimized by checking the contact pattern left on the valve tip by the rocker. Paint the valve tip with layout (machinist's) dye, install the pushrod and rocker, set lash, then rotate the motor a few times to get a pattern. Remove the rocker and check. The objective is to get the pattern centered on the valve tip.
