oil pressure pegged

Hey all just bought a 84 Trans Am for 600 thats in greats shape with 124000 miles and a new radiator and alternator. I noticed that the oil pressure gauge wasn't working, it was all the way past 60 where 90 or 120 would be but wasn't at zero either so I assumed it was the sender unit and I was wondering If anyone could give me some advice on how to replace this. Ive searched the forum but havnt found anything for my particual model year. Other than this the car runs great and have historic tags run it every day. Thanks in advance

Re: oil pressure pegged

Both of mine are always pegged when running.
I would ASSume that your sender would be a bell looking thingamajig located on the top rear drivers side of the block behind the intake manifold.

Re: oil pressure pegged

how to replace this
Rotate counterclockwise to remove.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

You may find that the wire is merely disconnected.

Not if it's where I said. You might get a drop from the sender but, no.

Re: oil pressure pegged

It's a sort of a can looking thing about 1½" in diameter and about 2" long, has a kind of somewhat pointed end where the wire plugs onto it, below and just to the driver's side of the distributor. It is mounted on a brass pipe fitting that screws into the top of the block right behind the intake manifold. It's almost directly below the wiper motor.

Make sure the wire is plugged in.
