HELP!!!! FIRE COMES OUT OF HEADER AREA

i have a 1990 rs v-8 tbi camaro and the hooker super comp. headers i have in it get really hot and a little puff of FIRE comes out of the driver side header area.....any ideas why this happens? i just recently installed a new thermostat and water housing and filled it up with 50/50 coolent. only thing is i checked the oil level and im sure it needs alot of engine oil could this be why the engine and headers are getting hot and make fire come out of the header?

Re: HELP!!!! FIRE COMES OUT OF HEADER AREA

the engine being low on oil could attribute to it running hot. as far as the fire coming out of open headers, it's not abnormal, especially if your running a bit rich...it's usually just some unburned fuel that accumulates in the pipes lighting off.

Re: HELP!!!! FIRE COMES OUT OF HEADER AREA

do you have any exhaust on the car? or do you only have headers with no exhaust? just headers is open headers. do you mean the fire is coming from between the head/headers? or from the collector on the headers?

Re: HELP!!!! FIRE COMES OUT OF HEADER AREA

i have a exhaust i have flowmaster pipes with a hooker super comp. "box" at the end.im not sure where the collector is on headers but it seems to come from where the header and engine meet, the headers in the back of the engine on th driver side, its not roaring flames but a puff of fire that happens real quick and headers are getting REALLY HOT faster then normal..thanks man

Re: HELP!!!! FIRE COMES OUT OF HEADER AREA

no they arent expensive just a pain AZ will have them

but you seem to have a symptom there not the problem you should check your timing make sure it is where it is supposed to be... retarded timing will lead to increased exhaust temps a decreased engine hp
