knock sensor delete, with resistor.
Im looking into building either a 350 TPI or carb setup from the block up power monster. Im making up the perfect list in my head.. Im wanting to use a noisy gear drive instead of a timing chain. I heard that it would affect the knock sensor if i go with TPI. question is, is it ok it i run a resistor on the knock sensor connector? Its going to go into 2nd gen made b4 the required smog.

Re: knock sensor delete, with resistor.
it will "work"... but is not ideal...
they sell gear drives that are not as loud and might get by the sensor un noticed...
now from personal experience with the "noisy" gear drive you will most likely regret it
people like the noisy part because it sounds quite like a supercharger
now say 20% of the population associate that sound with some type of performance... that leaves 80% of the people thinking your some ******* out looking for a new copy of dueling banjos
now of that 20% say roughly 8% know nothing about superchargers and have only heard the sound on "fast and the furious", while the remaining 12% have heard a real supercharger at some point and have also heard of gear driven timing sets
so to recap 8% will think that is the coolest **** they ever heard
~12% will think you just have a annoying gear set pretending it is a supercharger
and 80% will think your a hick with a busted up engine
no idea how many times people would come up to me and ask if i knew the engine was making a "weird winding noise"... i eventually stopped explaining that it was a gear driven timing set and started telling people not to worry... its just the Japanese children i use for gas... then imagine the odd looks i got

Re: knock sensor delete, with resistor.
roots superchargers require more planning than most and are the least efficient at what they do... although probably the easiest to install...

Re: knock sensor delete, with resistor.
for a vehicle that will see mostly street driving... real low CR like 8.5:1 max. a real mild cam think near stock... a cam company would custom grind one for your build
forged pistons, forged crank... still risky, detonation is the devil and the devil loves heat...
like 450-500 HP at the crank... the $/HP is very poor but it can be done reliably...
for around the same money you could run a centrifugal supercharger and have much more HP and near the same reliability without the high risk of detonation due to temps most detonation with the centrifugal s/c is caused by failure of a component

detonation would mean itd blow up? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08ar7XcbHAc

Re: knock sensor delete, with resistor.
well not completely blow up but can cause massive damage to every part of the engine
