I have a edelbrock performer EPS on my car now, my buddy gave me a Performer RPM. My question is will it be worth changing intakes?, will I even notice a difference? my car is a 82 firebird with a 305 LE9 out of a 84 chevy 1/2 ton truck, its got a 1805 Edelbrock carb, flowtech 1" 5/8 headers and 3" exhaust with a flowmaster muffler.

I thought most TGO folks agreed that the Performer wasn't worth the money, but the Performer RPM was the intake of choice? At least that's what I read over the years.

correct me if im wrong, but isnt the only difference in edelbrock's intakes the operating RPM they are designed for?

The Performer is an entry level intake,that is a little better than stock,but not a whole lot.The Performer RPM is a much better flowing intake,with more hp potential.However,on a stock 305 without any other modifications,I doubt you'd see any noticable gain,and you might even see a small loss in off idle performance.Intakes are like any other part of an engine,bigger does not always mean better.

Right, runner size shape and length totally different, meaning it's a totally different intake.

I actually measured my performer non-rpm today, and the port size is 1.2x1.9, so it's a bit smaller than a 1205 gasket which is considered a hot street port.

For comparison sake, a stock TPI baseplate is 1.20x1.96, so the performer is close to stock.

I'm assuming the RPM is spot-on at 1.20x2.04 which is what similar performance manifolds measure out at, but I don't have one to measure.

I glanced at a performer EPS once. Looked like a slightly smaller version of the RPM wasnt to interested in comparing it to a stock performer which just by glance it was larger. The RPM is considered a high performance dual plane intake. The perforomer and EPS are stock replacments the EPS is middle of the road from what ive read with slightly better flow then a performer intake. The RPM is a great intake I run one on my bird and I use it for a DD and I have had great results with it.

I currently run that intake on my l69 305. When I swapped over to it I really didn't notice a whole lot of gain over my original intake tho.

The performer rpm. I imagine you'll have a little bit of gain but nothing drastic. Probably 6 or 7 more hp and 2 or 3lb torque. If you already have it and it's a sunny day might as well go ahead and put it on but don't expect to be blown away by the results. It is a good intake tho. Also your powerband will probably shift up 500ish rpms.
