Re: Need Help Finding out what engine i got and may from where it came from

Everyone says "corvette" - it's like the end all be all sales pitch. Not sure why exactly, vettes were never known to win many drag races - should use Nova as a sales pitch

3970010 is the same 350 block that most everyone has - it was made from '69 until '79. Might have been from a vette I guess, could have also been from a truck, car, boat, and who knows what else.

Usually, folks can go to www.mortec.com and look up casting numbers - but the site has been down for over a week now (hope they didn't disappear completely, every discussion on the Internet references mortec for Chev casting numbers!

Ohhh - wait - found another - looks like NastyZ28 has info:
http://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/sblock.php

And you'll see the heads here - 74cc 307 or 350 heads:
http://www.ecbrcnj.com/id14.html

So - sorry - you have nothing special - standard 1970's 350 block and standard 1970's low compression smog heads.

But - like the rest of us, any 350 is a good 350, power is made in the heads and there are many head options - you have something to build upon as time/money allows!

BTW - I just typed in Yahoo! search "chevy casting numbers" and your head numbers to find this.

010 block. Generic 4" bore block. Was used for many years in many vehicles. Was used to make 302, 327 and mostly 350 engines.

Suffix code V0605TWH

Before even looking it up, I can tell you the block came from a pickup truck or van.

V = Flint engine plant
0605 - June 5
TWH = The T means it was in a truck but the WH can't be found in the listings.

It looks like an early to mid 70's 350 truck engine. Not that it really matters. It's still just an 010 block and unless you use it as an original engine, it won't really matter what it came from. Change the cam because the truck cam is made for low rpm work, change the heads (smog heads), change the intake/carb and the suffix code means nothing.

Get the block zero decked and the suffix code will be machined off.
