cable speedo to electrical
I have a 86 Pontiac Firebird that had an original cable driven speedometer and a couple weeks ago I swapped in an electrical one and have no idea how to get the speedometer to work now. Everyting else work except the oil pressure and temp level never increases. I heard that I have to run a computer from the transmission to the speedometor but is there an easier way.

Quickest way would be: speed sensor wires into a VSS buffer box (junkyard), speedometer output from VSS buffer box to speedometer.

Just to make sure I read correctly. You now have an electric speedometer with a transmission that has a cable tailshaft? Is the speedometer from Auto Meter? If so, just get one of these. Its the same thing I used when i had a TH350 in my car with my Auto Meter electric speedometer.

Yes the stock guages were cable driven and I went to a junkyrad and saw a factory electronial guage that I liked. When I came home it was then that I releaized that mine was a cable driven and the one from the junkyard was not.
