Easier Job
I may be in the wrong section, sorry if I am. I'm wondering which would be the easier/less expensive route; finding a 350 and dropping it into a car that has a 5-speed transmission or finding a car with a 350 and dropping in a 5-speed transmission? I've heard that 350's are pretty abundant. I was thinking that if I can find a car with a 305 or the lousy v6 with a 5-speed tranny, I could buy a 350 and drop it in, then try to sell the other engine. Something to consider is that I would want to add performance mods to the 350; cam, headers, heads, roller rockers, pulley system, throttle body, intake, etc. I would think it is a lot easier to do those mods with the engine out of the vehicle.

Re: Easier Job
the v6 trans wont work cheaply or well, with the v8's.
if you have the equipment and tools, converting a car to a 5 speed is usually faster than pulling the engine and changing it. If you do the work yourself, the cost of the 5 speed swap parts and trans, is probably similar to the cost of a decent 350. But that all depends on mileage, condition of the engine, induction, ect ect ect ect
