Re: tbi to tpi

TBI was 170hp, TPI was 215hp I think - so we're only looking at 45hp gain.

To see all that 45hp gain, you'd have to switch to TPI intake, TPI injectors, TPI heads (yes, the heads are different), and TPI ECM, plus additional wiring (TPI harness is different as well - would need to connect different sensors or get a TPI harness).

After all that, you'd only get 45 more hp max - alot of money spent as well as time/trouble. Unless you got a complete TPI motor, harness, and ECM you could swap in, I'd say not worth it - and even if you got all that, I'd still say not worth the time/trouble.

Should look at dropping in a 350, and either retaining the TBI by swapping out the prom with a 350 TBI prom from a truck or Caprice and changing the knock sensor, or changing to carb.

What county in NC do you live?

Re: tbi to tpi

I swaped the whole drive train from a 91 z28 in to my 92 rs. It is not hard at all, if you get an L98 (350) like i did, they are rated at 245. Thats 75hp over a stock tbi 305. If you get a good deal on the engine with wiring, and computer then go for it. I payed $100 for an entire 91 z28. The body was rough, and it need a fuel pump. I like it. But I plan on putting a turbo 5.3 or 6.0 in it next year. I want to get all the suspention, body, and paint work done first.

Re: tbi to tpi

Yeah - a cheap entire motor and a 350 to boot - now that would be worth the swap. But trying to just get the parts and change everything over onto another 305 - not worth my money/time/effort.
