Thirdgen Tech "How To" Videos

Hi Guys,

Some of you might have seen me around the forum every now and then. Earlier this year I started making "Tech How To" videos on YouTube under the name KLOWNY1969. The majority of my channel is related to thirdgens and my videos range from the begining level mechanic to high performance and electrical. I also work on regular cars for my customers and tape those jobs..

I figured I'd get some videos under my belt first and then formally come out on TGO. So far I have over 145 videos and 300,000 views on my channel.I attached my auto relay video below which is one of my most viewed videos for you guys to see..

I also include a few videos of my 1991 camaro rs 383 stroker!!

If you guys have any requests for any future video please let me know, and I will try to accomodate you guys.

You can also subscribe to my channel for free to be notified whenever I post a new video.

Thanks,
KLOWN

Re: Thirdgen Tech "How To" Videos

Awesome channel, was just checking it out. You just helped me solve about 4 different problems much easier than I would have done it I didn't check every vid yet, so if it's up already I apologize, but would you be able to do a fuel filter replacement or diag vid at some point? Someone dumped sugar in my tank about a month ago and I believe it's finally starting to become clogged, a video would be a HUGE help for me to replace it if at all possible.

Re: Thirdgen Tech "How To" Videos

One thing to note about the fuel filter is that once you tighten everything down you should pressurize the car by turning the ign key to run and check for leaks..

and the bolt is a 10mm bolt that holds the bracket to the body..but its not necessary to take off

Re: Thirdgen Tech "How To" Videos

I dont have a car that has an o2 sensor hooked up currently..You can take ur o2 sensor off and test it with a torch and a mulitmeter if u want..there are tons of vids on youtube on how to do that..
you can also ohm test the sensor cold to see what the resistance is..i have a video on doing that...

When you're making the gas tank video, please take care to elaborate on how you get the ring around the sending unit to open without special tools and wothout destroying it in the process. Thanks!

Hello Manolis,
Great info.
How about installing a 4309 Mallory fpr from square one, to be able replace a TBI with a carb on your typical L03?
Recommended fittings and such?
Thanks

Thank You Manolis , your videos are great and I understand if it takes a while to get around to the seat belt button thing , seeing all the other videos you have to get to .

Also , if your looking for third gen specific PIA repairs , how about a vid of changing the frame mounted portion of our engine mounts . The first one I did (my 87 TA) I ended up taking out the springs to get at the hardware hidden in the frame , but by my second one (my 89 Firebird) I had gotten the crazy idea to reach in between the spring and frame and using a stick welder I put a little tack weld on each of the three nuts to hold them to the frame so the bolts would come out . No big welds , just a couple of light tack welds on each that could be broken off in the future should the need ever arise . I shot a little bit of paint in there when I was done to prevent rust and did the job in a couple of hours instead of a couple of days (like the first one I did) .

Wouldn't you just stick an airgun onto one end of the completely loosened lines?

Re: Thirdgen Tech "How To" Videos

A little misinformed on the wiring of a relay. pin 30 is the supply side(battery) pin 87 is the load side(device being powered) pin 87a is the alternate load( say, switching from high to low beam circuit). It will obviously work the way you have it, but it is not designed to be that way.

Re: Thirdgen Tech "How To" Videos

How about a video removing a stock starter...that should be fun. I unbolted mine but I can't get it out from behind the y-pipe. I actually got it stuck under the control arm, and sadly I have to take apart the passenger side shock and spring to get it out. I was going to try removing the exhaust, but the bolts on the y-pipe collector are corroded and would likely snap.

Thanks!

Thanks!
it takes a lot of twisting/finiggaling and cussing to get the stock auto trans starter out with a stock y pipe still in place( i successfully changed one without getting anything stuck)

the trick is to replace it with either a t5 starter or a mini starter(id choose this one) so it fits a little easier

Remove the solenoid and twist, out it comes.

Re: Thirdgen Tech "How To" Videos

I couldn't get it out, it actually got stuck in between the control arm and exhaust pipe. I unbolted the y-pipe, unfortunately one stud snapped (which can always be expected when messing with exhaust).

I already bought a starter from a part car, got it for only $25, whereas mini starters cost more than $100. I may seem cheap but I on a college budget, and only work one day a week. Plus I spent most of my savings on the interior.

Re: Thirdgen Tech "How To" Videos

Thanks guys

Hahahaaa the stock setup for starter replacement is a bitch,! To be honest..all the thirdgens i worked on so far have either aftermarket y-pipe or smaller starter..but i will definately make a vid on a stock type of starter rplacement when i can..

Below are two vids..one on how to change a front strut..and the second is how to replace a strut mount..i also show examples of a bad strut and mount and how to diagnose!

Dont forget to subscribe to my thirdgen channel

Thanks to all!!
