416 or 187 heads on 350

Hi. Which of these heads would be better for low rpm torque? I want to get some more compression for my propane powered truck. It rarely sees over 3500 rpms. Its a 92 350 car engine I have a ramjet roller cam in it, shorty headers, holley tbi intake, 3" single exhaust. It hauls a camper around ect.

For your application, definately the 187s.

They flow a little better on the exhaust side, should help get the heat from the propane out of the head. Also while the propane really does not need the added intake swirl, I really don't think it would hurt.

I would definately trim the end off, but don't just grind the ramp out, you will hit water. There is a ridge the cutter left from installing the valve seat that should be ground down. Also it wouldn't hurt to cut the seat for a 1.94" valve and use a good multi angle seat cut. A 5 angle radiused seat should help contact and help get the heat out of the valve. Do some research in the propane head setup as building and setting up a head for gaseous fuels is a bit different than gasoline.

[QUOTE=Fast355;5785524]I would definately trim the end off

Meaning grind the top down like .100"? or is there a different spot?

Re: 416 or 187 heads on 350

Ok now what about these 059 heads? Would they be a better choice than the 187s? This thing is off idle up mostly. low to midrange. I am thinking of a jy turbo job maybie off a 5.9 cumins or 6.5 chevy.

059s flow GREAT and have a nice chamber. Should make great off-idle and midrange power on a 350.

Oh. I forgot to mention its a manual. So it really is "off-idle". 5th gear 1500 rpms frequenly.

You might look into the GM Gaseous fuel vortec engine camshaft part number. Not sure which cam it is, but GM claims GREAT low-midrange torque out of it.

Re: 416 or 187 heads on 350

Ok, the i got a set of 187 heads off a 1990 truck. Looks like they were rebuilt at some point they have the guide liners in them and look pretty good considering. Looking through the intake port it looks like i should grind the corner off the swirl ramp. Bad idea? Any insight on the intake ports being siamesed like that?
