87 TransAm 305TPI wont start

Hey guys so ive got an 87 Trans am with a 305 700R4 and heres my story.

Bought the car off an estate, knew nothing about it. The new owners knew nothing of the car, had the keys but couldnt start it and listed it on kijiji. I went looked at the car talked them down in price, I could turn the crank by hand so i knew it wasnt seized, when trying to boost it and turn the key all gauges would come on but it wouldnt turn over, fire etc. Anyways, since I knew the engine wasnt seized i gave the guy an offer and bought it. I got the car home after some tampering and dicking around I couldnt figure out why the car wouldnt turn over.. then i had the idea maybe the starter is messed. So I go tap on it a few times and nothing. So then I decided to try cross start it at the starter, turned key on and tryed it. Car turned over a few times and fired right up. So after I managed to get the car running I proceeded to take it for a safety later that week, the guy told me it was an old immobilizer that was installed in the car way back. Now he said he bypassed it and put in a push button start for me, so basically I just need the key on and then push the button. Now the car worked and ran great for a couple summers and then I started having issues with it. I cant seem to get it to start. It will turn over with full power, I have removed spark plugs and i have lots of spark at the plugs aswell as the cap. I checked the rack for fuel and I have lots of fuel pressure.Ive got power at the injectors. If I remove the intake hose and spray a little fuel or ether itll fire and run for a second or two. So now I am wondering what my issue is? I have spark, I have fuel with pressure but it will not fire. Would it be my injectors? How would I check and how much would that cost me? Could it be my immobilizer screwing up again which isnt allowing the spark to ignite? How can I remove the immobilizer completely to install a new one.

Have you actually checked your fuel pressure at the rail with a gauge? Possible your pump is going bad and not pushing enough pressure. Visual check isn't sufficient to determine this.

Have you ohmed the injectors (Do a search on the site here, there are instructions on how to do that) to ensure they're good?

If you remove the immobilizer, take it to a reputable company and just have it removed.

Also check the ICM (ignition control module). If the ECM doesn't see the signal from the ICM, it will not fire the injectors. Injectors (all eight at once)should not catastrophically fail such that the engine will not start or run. Fuel pressure should be around 38 psi with key on. HTH!

Re: 87 TransAm 305TPI wont start

Try these things in order
1. Unplug mass airflow sensor (MAF) and try to start car. If it starts and runs its the MAF Replace or clean.

2. hold down throttle 1/4 way down and try to start car. If you need to hold the pedal down to keep car runing it may be Idle Air Control. (IAC)

I had the same exact issue and it was the MAF Good luck. Please post results!
