Newbie! Gunna have lots of Qs. Im trying to fix the hatch pulll down. Mine is metal and the sliders have been spot welded in place. Bought one on craigslist and its all plastic. Come to learn that they changed the mech. mid 91. Mine is an early 91 z28 G92. Is it worth fixng? will it decrease the rattle from the hatch? will the late 91-92 pull down match the early harness? I got a great deal on the mechanism and would love to make it work, seller will remedy it any way possible. So long story short if my pull down has the motor removed and has been welded tight, can I put in a later model plastic version and have it work? were the later plastic ones worse? Should I have the seller find me an old style metal one (because he has those too)? Got lots more questions. but wil leave it at that. Oh and I may seem a bit urgent in any responses but the plan is to take this thing on the Hot Rod Power tour starting in June 2015 (family fun). Please advise.

so i got my self 91 z28 g92 95k no rust car. She has issues. But the plan is to race it, hot rod it, but keep all the original stuff (in case the collector market for these appreciates). trying to fix the rear hatch pull down. Mine is metal and welded tight. Someone removed the motor and it is only a latch. (that works intermittently with the release button). I got a really good deal on a unit, but it is plastic, and completely unlike what is on the car. turns out mid 91 they changed the pull down mech. can I put this on my car. are the harnesses the same? Would i be better off finding a direct replacement? or is the late 91 mech an improvement (I would doubt that because at the time most changes made were to make it cheaper not necessarily better)? my goal is to develop a good track/street car. But I also want to preserve it in case it makes more sense to have it all original. My imediate goal is to get her ready for the 2015 power tour. So I have lots of issues to address. be prepared for subsequent brain picking.

So The question still remains will the plastic late model (91-92) Complete pull down mechanism work on a car that currently has the metal type? or did the mounting/connectors change. Should I exchange it for the other type? Does one style work better or last longer than the other?
