305 taller than 350?

So wrapping up my 350 to 305 swap I just used all old parts off 350 and so far everything has for perfectly was going to put y pipe to manifolds yesterday but the y pipe wouldn't reach the manifolds to bolt them together there was about a 3 inch gap, it looked perfectly aligned just not long enough y pipe it seems like. Weird thing is this was the y pipe that was on the 350 with the same manifolds I now have on my 305 but y pipe won't reach manifolds? Are the exhaust ports higher on a 305 compared to 350?

Nope, all gen 1 sbc engines are small size (high, wide, long)

Re: 305 taller than 350?

When I got the car the y pipe was in the trunk and the guy said he just took it off so I don't have a heat valve riser does anyone have a picture where their manifolds connect to y pipe?

Re: 305 taller than 350?

What kind of car are you working on?

If I may be so bold as to ask, why are you downgrading the motor?

so you never personally had this y pipe hooked up to those manifolds on your car?

you might just have the wrong manifolds for that y pipe.

Re: 305 taller than 350?

So thanks to knight rider 327 I realized I had a heat riser the whole time sitting in my parts pile, so now I need to bolt y pipe to manifold but I'm missing the nuts for the flange studs, really don't want to take off manifolds to find but size anyone know nut size for manifold to y pipe stud?

Re: 305 taller than 350?

IIRC it's a common 3/8" - 16 thread, 9/16" wrenching.

Any hardware store, home depot, lowes, tractor supply, etc will have that size. About 15 cents each

Re: 305 taller than 350?

Get stainless or brass ones. NOT just regular steel.

Won't matter much now; you'll be glad later on though.

Re: 305 taller than 350?

I prefer brass as they won't gall and if you have a hard time with them coming off (highly unlikely), you won't break the stud!
