Re: power steering problem

There are some bolts on the back of the reservoir that hold it to the pump. You should really just pull the whole pump and do that work on a bench. You'll need a power steering pump pulley puller/installer. Stores like AutoZone or Advance should have the puller available in their tool loaner inventory.

Also if my memory serves me well (particularly on serpentine belt cars), you need to remove the pump pulley while it's still on the car to get at the bolts that hold it on.

Re: power steering problem

You have to remove the entire bracket that is holding the pump. Remove alternator, then there are two torx head bolts near the top, a nut on the side, and a nut at the bottom where the negative ground is attached. Four connectors in all. Then theres a bolt for the top radiator hose support bracket, and one for the fuel line support that are also also connected to the pump bracket. You can't take the pulley off when the pump is still on the car, there is not enough room because the primary fan will be in the way if you have dual fans. The puller will not fit in there. With a 305 you might get away with it if you have a single fan setup. If not, you must remove the entire bracket with pump and pulley attached, then you can remove the pulley. After the pulley is out of the way, remove the three torx bolts holding the pump to the bracket. It's an easy job, just have to keep turning nuts and bolts. One of the top torx bolts is sort of hidden in a recess, but it's not hard to reach once you know where it is. BTW, rebuilding the pump is pretty easy and a lot cheaper than a new one. Hardest part is removing and reinstalling the main shaft bushing, as it is pressed in. A machine shop could do it easily if you don't have a metal press. To take the pump out of the reservoir, remove the two bolts/studs, then the 1" high pressure hose receptacle bolt at the bottom. Tap it lightly and it will slide off. Careful not to bend or pry, the tank is pretty fragile. If you do the full rebuild, assembly is the reverse. No tricks or anything, just common sense approach, it's not very hard.
