Re: 88 iroc camaro help
Well there are a whole bunch of different reasons your car could be doing that (and I'm no expert on all of them), so we may need a little more information to help narrow it down.
First of all, do you know if there are any codes? The first thing I would do is check codes. Checking for codes is pretty easy if you get a paperclip and jump a terminal on the diagnostic port. Here is a link that has tons of info on doing this for vehicles in general:
http://www.freeautomechanic.com/diag...blecodes5.html
If you have checked codes and have none, then it makes the problem a little harder to narrow down, but not impossible.
The next thing I would do after checking codes is to pull vacuum on the motor and see what you are reading. If I recall, you want to see around 18-21. If it's significantly lower, then you have a decent vacuum leak which can cause all sorts of problems, including what you are facing.
Otherwise, several senors may cause this issues such as the throttle position sensor, pickup-coil/ignition control module (inside the distributor) etc. but if these usually would have other side effects too.
Quite often with these cars, if you are somewhat low on gas, it will stall out if you slow down too quickly also. It happened to me quite frequently until I got used to the fuel level based on the gas gauge, and it happens to my friend who owns an 88 305 all the time too.
I'm not familiar with TPI systems but hopefully with some more info on your situation and knowledge from other people we can figure this out.
