Re: door hinge or pin>?

If it isn't too late the hinge can be repaired by installing a new pin and bushings. Dorman offers a kit (DORMAN 38401) with all the parts for the upper hinge - The one which usually wears.first and worst.

When you're all done, use the episode as a reminder to lubricate the hinges and latches on a routine basis. Body cleaning and lubrication should be a complete annual regimen with items like these which are often overlooked until it is too late.

I had the same problem. I had to replace the lower hinge that bolts to the car. I have a post on here with pics but I think it's in the body section

Re: door hinge or pin>?

Then it's time to repair it before it gets any worse. You'll need a helping hand to hold the door while you work in the hinge area. The door can be rested on a floor jack covered by a soft piece of lumber and a towel, but it helps to have someone present to steady the door to prevent damaging the lower hinge. Also, lower the door glass before starting just to prevent any potential damage.

If you really can't find a reliable helper, as has happened to me, you can use a long nylon web ratchet strap and sling the door from the bottom to an overhead support. It help to keep the door from twisting the lower hinge, but it's still easier with a helper to align the door for reassembly.

Hopefully the GFX plastic pieces are in good enough condition to salvage. 3M/Scotch (P/N 34240) two-part urethane filler should clean up any crevices so they can be repainted to match.
