88 305 TPI - Backfire and Bad Idle?
Hi Everyone,
88 Formula with 305 TPI is having extremely rough idle and trouble starting. Problem was intermittent a few months ago but now happens all the time. Spark plugs, wires and cap are all on the newer side. Just replaced the Ignition Coil and Ignition Coil Wire thinking that was the problem, but it did not solve it.
Car is very hard to start, once running timing is way off and RPM gauge fluctuates rapidly. Smells like it is burning raw gas and backfires every other minute or so. ...could this be the Ignition Control Module? Have really good videos of the issue and rpm gauge PM me your email address for videos.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Hi Shed5150. I'd start with trouble codes if any exist. My gut instinct suspects egr is stuck open. That is just a guess. Second guess would be MAF or MAP but I don't own a tpi so someone that has experience with that system would be better. Don't spend $$$ until you check all the basics first. Hope you find it.
