Starting/Fuel/Fuel pressure nightmare

I've been reading for almost 2 weeks trying everything on the search button to see If I could solve my issue. So i'll toss out my set up first then the issue
350 TPI L05 engine, Pretty much everything stock except the injectors are Bosch III 24lbs. ECM is a custom ostrich right now, MSD wires, Plugs seemed ok (might be issue on the start). Mild comp cam, new timing chain. walbaro 255 pump

Issue, when trying to start I get nothing. But the plug that goes into the fuel pump relay along the wall almost looked melted and gummy. So i jumped the plug to see if I was getting pressure at the rail and it read about 12-15 PSI. so I disconnected my gauge seeing it is old thinking may an issue there. I primed again with the line connected and it looks like my schrader valve is toast fuel was shooting everywhere. Also when I tested the pump when jumping with the line open I filled a bucket like it was nothing in seconds.

Could this be injector, ? could this be FPR related ? pinched line to the rail ? I noticed a couple of bends seem rather tight. I'm for sure going to replace the Relay just because it's OEM and as old as the car.

But still no start and when I had the lines hooked up and was doing the prime I had zero pressure at the rail. It wasn't until I jumped the fuel pump i saw PSI at the rail.

I've read so many threads and just can't pin-point. Once this is figured out I will be posting a solution/fix and what was used, it seems a lot of threads are started but a solution is never posted . This is my nightmare.

Re: Starting/Fuel/Fuel pressure nightmare

Need to verify your fuel pressure with a gauge. 12-15 psi isn't enough.

Re: Starting/Fuel/Fuel pressure nightmare

Gauge on the valve on the fuel rail when jumped is reading 12-15 PSI with the jumper wire attached. Just weird because when the line was disconnected I literally filled a gallon jug in seconds it seemed.

Re: Starting/Fuel/Fuel pressure nightmare

If there's something wrong with your schrader valve, it might be throwing off the reading.

Re: Starting/Fuel/Fuel pressure nightmare

Schrader valve is replaceable right ? I know when I pulled off my fitting and gauge it shot fuel up in the air I then instantly pulled the jumper wire. I mean I have seen bad fuel pressure before where is trickles or is just not high but the pump was for sure putting out some serious pressure.

Re: Starting/Fuel/Fuel pressure nightmare

First things first......

Try taking the Schrader valve out of the picture by removing it from the pressure port fitting. Use a tire valve tool. Now hook up your pressure gauge and see what kind of reading you get.

Turn the key to ON but don't try to start it. You should get pressure when the pump primes. What is the gauge reading? It should hold after the the prime cycle stops.

BTW, how long ago did you install the injectors? Did you let them sit on a shelf for a while before installing them? How long did they sit?

Re: Starting/Fuel/Fuel pressure nightmare

Pulled the OEM's out the 24lb injectors installed i honestly could not even tell you how long they sat. When I bought the car back he said the car sat for 8 years and when he tried to start it it wouldn't turn over. His first assumption was injectors so he gave me the 24lb injectors with the car when I got it back I believe they where fresh rebuilds within the past year or so. But then again who know's some will say whatever it takes to get a car out of there hands. He's a thirdgen.org member he's a good guy.

I asked this because I had a set of cleaned and flow matched 19lb. injectors that I let sit on the shelf for a couple of years before I installed them.

I don't know how true this is, but I have read that whatever fluid they run through the injector after cleaning tends to get gummy with age.

Re: Starting/Fuel/Fuel pressure nightmare

I've read the same thing. You are 100% right with age they crap out. Part of me wants to just start all over. I know the relay has to be toast as well the connector that plugs into it was just in bad bad shape. Almost looked burnt. Fuel pressure regulator playing a part in this as well maybe ? I mean this car did sit for a long long long time in a pole barn

Re: Starting/Fuel/Fuel pressure nightmare

Ok, back with an update I decided to work a lot of hours lately Had to add some new metal to the fleet but anyway. Fuel pump is good I found out that the rubber 2 inch piece of hose inside the tank that connects to the fuel pump was toast so I replaced that with double braided fuel line hose. Boom 42PSI. And still not firing. Only starts with starting fluid. I've done some reading and have seen that the injector fuses could be an issue it seems like fuel is hitting one side but possibly not the driver side bank. Or could this strictly be an ECM issue due to me running my car off of a Moates.net Ostrich right now ?. I'm debating. Ignition toast ? coil ? Also if the injector fuses anyone know off hand were're there at ?. I do this work late at night after work so it becomes a headache. Or do i just rip this whole set up out and go for a LS 5.3 lol.
