California Emissions + a code 44

I have a question! Never thought to ask about it till now, but when I bought this Camaro . which is a 1992 Camaro 305 TBI, it was from California, with California emissions (has the prom chip). Is there any difference in performance from a non-California car? and if I want to do away with the California emissions (not living in California anytime soon) what do I need to change, besides the PROM?

Also, something else that has intermittently popped up twice now (and was actually in the engine codes last year when I had stalling problems) is a code 44, and only code 44. says o2 sensor-lean exhaust. I had replaced the sensor, I had replaced the catalytic converter and I have done a fuel pressure test with approx. 12 PSI (can jump above 20 if I pinch the return line). exhaust is not sealed perfectly, so it's still loud (till I fix that) wasn't sure if anything else I could check for that code.

Re: California Emissions + a code 44

a bad egr valve got rid of code 44 for me. that was the hardest code for me to track down so far. funny enough when ordering the new egr, the only one that would work on my tpi car was a california emissions one.

Good luck with that code, it can be difficult

Edit: also check for vacuum leaks, I think I've seen that as being a cause for code 44 on here as well.
