Looking to Add Bypass Unit to Delete Smog/Air pump?

my car is now over 25 years old and no longer requires emissions testing, but my smog/air pump likes to seize up now and then, I have replaced it 7 times now well within a 4 year period, I have found a bypass that allows me to dump the stupid A$$ emissions crap, but I need to know what else is needed to allow the fuel flow to continue, I have ran the car without the serpentine belt, but now I am going in all the way to do this, I know the connections are two different sizes, but would it be smart to run an inline fuel filter to act as the cupler?...the connections are like going from a pinky sized finger tip to a large sized thumb tip*....this is on a 3.1 liter engine if that helps?

thanks in advance*

Re: Looking to Add Bypass Unit to Delete Smog/Air pump?

say what now? maybe lets break this up a little bit

1 - you want to ditch your smog pump - this is pretty easy, if its a serpentine setup (1 big belt), you need the smaller belt (i saw a thread about it somewhere on here) if its on its own belt, just flip it off and remove it. Pull the little black airbox, then spend many hours removing the piping that runs down to the cat - then block the hole in the cat.

2 - Fuel - Removing the above shouldnt interfere with fuel i wouldnt have thought, yes it uses metal lines but from memory all of these cars had the same steel lines from front to back regardless of this size engine (Five7Kid) could probably confirm that one. The large diameter one is supply and the other is the return back to the tank.

Do you have the stock # of the Serpentine belt?

As Zed said, the simplest is: for a V belt, just remove it. For a serpentine belt, remove the AIR pulley and switch to a sorter belt. That's it. Done.

Next, if you want to spend the time removing other parts to pretty up the engine bay (and **** off any potential future owner who does need to pass emissions) ... start removing the AIR pump and everything connected to it, until you get to a part you need to keep, such as exhaust manifolds (why not step up to headers without the plumbing ) and crimp/plug the tube at the cat.
