Silly Girl Doing Own Repairs... HELP!
1989 Firebird, 5.7L: My poor ride!
She lost power/combustion the other day and kept stalling out, so today I decided to tune her up; replaced the fuel filter first, and she really seemed to like that.
Next: replaced air filter and spark plugs and ripped off my muffler (FINALLY), which has been disconnected from the catalytic converter for months now.
All of a sudden, she's idling all crazy-like and overheating like a sinner in church! Did I mess up the spark plug installation?? She's missing/revving wildly when I accelerate, and I am simply exhausted trying to figure it out. I've never done vehicle repairs like this before, but I am tired of trying to find someone in my area who even has a clue (although they all pretend to).

Welcome,
Location, pictures of car and a bit more info will help us help you. I'd start by checking the firing order, fuel PSI check and a few other things but that should get you started.

Re: Silly Girl Doing Own Repairs... HELP!
I second firing order, not 100% connected spark plug boots, and/or improper gap used on the plugs.

Re: Silly Girl Doing Own Repairs... HELP!
Thanks for replying, guys. So I've checked everywhere I can think (manual is on its way) and can't find a solid gap width for the plugs on this thing. They're at .035 right now.
I know next to nothing about mechanic-ing, so unsure of how to check firing order. I'm assuming fuel PSI is just a gauge I can pick up?
Sorry for the silly questions, but I greatly appreciate the input!
Mine is the sad one 😞
